Words of Life

There is little most won't do to remain alive, bring life into the world, and hope that life won't end at death, that they will go to heaven or be reincarnated or some such. The planet teems with life, and some believe the universe is also permeated with life, some alien creatures who have made contact with Earthlings. NASA hopes to find signs of life in their latest Mars probe. The subject of hanging on to life is not new. Peter had entirely different point of view because he knew that Jesus had the words of life. Words, not foods, medicines, exercise, or mental hygiene held the secret to a good life now and the resurrection to eternal life at Jesus’ return.

John 6:68 Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.

What Is Life?

The scientist can give you a number of characteristics that define life including, reproduction, motion, reactivity, and others. But there is more to life than being alive.

Matt. 6:25 ¶ “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

Jesus suggests storing our treasures, the things that make life more than just being alive, in heaven. So, then, what makes for life are those eternal treasures we accumulate over our lives, for each has particular ones but all have ones that transcend the mundane, the ordinary, and the worldly. Some who say, ‘I feel so alive’ cannot begin to know how alive a person can be who has Treasures.

Matt. 6:19 ¶ “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
Matt. 6:20 “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;

Know the Words

Let us continue the treasure hunt. Where can we find information on life and life more abundantly? Obviously, to know, one has to learn and learn from accurate or truthful sources, which, of course, are the Words of God. So as emulating Pe-ter, we also must find out from Jesus what are these words of life. What Jesus said and did, as well as his faithfulness to Our Father in Heaven and to Words of the Scriptures brings the words of life into sharp focus.

Deut. 32:47 “For it is not an idle word for you; indeed it is your life. And by this word you will prolong your days in the land, which you are about to cross the Jordan to possess.”

Know God Is the One Creator

The greatest treasure we can own, and the first most important information we need to know to have meaningful exis-tence, is that God alone is One and the only Creator of the universe and people. How few know this fact or vaguely as-sume its truth! Major religions, such as Protestant and Catholic make the One God into three in one, a trinity instead of a Unity, a Oneness. You see, the One God is the author of life because life exists in Him, and if people do not know that God alone created life, and life more abundantly on Earth, how can they go to Him through Jesus to obtain the good life and eternal life?

Deut. 4:35 “To you it was shown that you might know that the LORD, He is God; there is no other besides Him.

Deut. 6:4 ¶ “Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!

Deut. 4:39 “Know therefore today, and take it to your heart, that the LORD, He is God in heaven above and on the earth below; there is no other.

John 5:44 “How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God?

The Words of Life Created the World

God created the world and all the life on Earth by the power of His Words and Spirit. The same Command that said let there be light also said keep the Words of life, the Law and Commandments; that is, God’s Words have the power to create life, and He gives believers the same Words and power if they would walk in the faith. Even so, the Words are there for us. Scientists know, for example, that every particle of the universe is encoded with God’s Unity (See: Schroeder, The Hidden Face of God). So God’s Words even permeate and maintains all aspects of creation and life. Job notes that God gives people their every breath.

Job 26:13 “By His breath the heavens are cleared;
His hand has pierced the fleeing serpent.
Job 27:3 For as long as life is in me,
And the breath of God is in my nostrils,
Job 32:8 “But it is a spirit in man,
And the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding.
Job 33:4 “The Spirit of God has made me,
And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

We must know the One God alone created life by His Words and breath. So, we have laid the foundation of the Words of Life. Thus, it comes full circle. The power of the Words that created the world is given to believers. This treasure is the Word of Life.

Knowing God’s Commandments Brings Eternal Life

Who knows God’s Commandments? Even fundamental “Christians” claim that the commandments were part of the Old Covenant and therefore, were done away with, with the Old Covenant. The answer is very few know the commandments, even believers forget unless they practice them often. But are the commandments done away with?

Only one verse talks about the Old Covenant passing away, actually becoming obsolete, not done away with.

Heb. 8:13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

Surely, the New Covenant is better but the Ten Commandments and the Law have been re-introduced, re-enacted and become part of the New Covenant.

Heb. 8:10 “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and I will write them on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Heb. 10:16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws upon their heart, and on their mind I will write them,”

Even John says the love of God is keeping the Commandments. Jesus also said that keeping the commandments bring life. Surely, God would not say the Commandments bring life in the Old Covenant and then take away that life-bringing attribute in the New. But, Protestants and Catholics mislead their believers because they do not teach the Ten Commandments, especially the first and fourth. Here are ten treasures to be deposited in the heavenly vault.

Matt. 19:17 And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

Believe that Jesus Is the Son of God

Proof of God’s existence and goodness is found through out nature. But, it takes faith to believe Jesus is the begotten Son of God who became our conduit to eternal life. Can we believe the account of Jesus and the Apostles in the New Testament? If Genesis completely agrees with science in the description of creation, then the God who created the world must have had control of propounding His Word to humans. If God can create people and He did, He must have told them about Himself as well as the creation. If God can create people in His image, He could tell them how to live a lives worthy of being in His image. Thus, we can believe His Words proven in so many ways about begetting a son to be His savior of an erring mankind.

There is no treasure for a person who does not believe in its existence; it will just be left lying on the table for someone else to take. There is no treasure until a person takes it and makes it his own. When a person believes in Jesus, he receives the ability to adroitly manifest the power of the Words. When a person believes in Jesus, he has taken the quantum leap into eternal life.

Matt. 16:16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
1John 4:15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

John 17:3 “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

1Tim. 1:16 but I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience for an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.

The Life Within

Eternal life comes through Jesus because he destroyed death by dying for our sins. And just as God’s Words created life, believers have access to these Words of Life through Jesus who was begotten by the Words and Spirit. As believers learn the language of life from God, these Words dwell in their minds. But the Words of God without the power cannot fully be understood or reacted to. This power comes from the Words, the words of Jesus for the most part, which creates the power of life within.

John 6:63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

When the Gospel, the Good News, moves a person, he determines to act on the knowledge of life. God then washes the person of sin by baptism, lays hands on him through the minister, and gives the Spirit of power, the power to understand the Words, the power to lay aside the sins of the past, the power to keep the commandments, the power to take the treasure and run.

Eternal life now dwells within by the Spirit that empowers the Words. While believes live in the flesh for the time being, the Spirit within has already begun fashioning the new spiritual body to be ready for indwelling when Jesus returns. Day-by-day, hour-by-hour, minute-by-minute, the Spirit grows stronger as the believer renews himself by the Words and acts on them.

Eph. 4:23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
Col. 3:10 and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him—
Rom. 8:6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,

The Spirit brings the Words of Life to life and creates within the ability to handle the Word and perform spiritual wonders. Now believers can pray to Our Father in Heaven in His Language, have faith to move mountains, heal, effect miracles, prophecy and distinguish spirits.

1Cor. 12:8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit;
1Cor. 12:9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
1Cor. 12:10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the inter-pre tat ion of tongues.
1Cor. 12:11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.

Can believers use the power of God through the Words and Spirit? Only if the believer is ready, that is, pure of heart and desirous of making God’s gifts his own. The Greek for receiving the spirit is lambanoœ, which means:

(b) lambanoœ also means to receive, regularly with acc. of the thing; used to embrace all areas of life from simple things to spiritual benefit.

Most of all the Spirit makes it possible to do the Commandments of Life.

Ezek. 36:27 “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.

What treasures God graciously gives believers, which God encourages them to use to their fullest for their and others’ benefit and to give glory to God.

Believe in the Name of Jesus

There is a difference between believing in Jesus and believing in his name because name in Greek means authority and character.

3686. onoma; a prim. word; a name, authority, cause.

Jesus said that Our Father in Heaven gave all authority to him. He has authority over all governments, over demons, diseases, and all believers. Our Father in Heaven commanded that people must believe in Jesus’ name, that is, his authority. Thus, Jesus becomes our Lord and Master, under Our Father in Heaven, of course. And, he has responsibility for all believers.

1John 5:13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Jesus having received existence by God’s Words now gives eternal life to those who defer to him as Lord. To believe in someone’s authority, is not like believing something, or someone. Here the belief must be translated into the action of loyalty. The root of loyalty in English comes from the word liege, which combines love and belief into absolute loyalty to, in feudal times, the Lord, Prince or King. In the same way we serve Jesus as the knights of old served the Lord, even unto death. At the same time the Lord took absolute care of his knights, just as Jesus takes absolute care of those who are loyal to his name and authority. Believers, thus, redeem Jesus’ treasure.

1John 3:23 And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.

John 6:29 Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.”

Be at One with God and Jesus

The life Our Father in Heaven created by command is found in His Words, as we have been saying. When God’s Language becomes our language, His Thoughts become our thoughts, His mind made up of all His thoughts, becomes our mind. When this happens we have become at one with God and Jesus. And, re-member, by knowing God’s Thoughts, our existence is transported to the beginning, carries us through all the ages, and will thrust us into eternal life. What a treasure God’s Words are!

John 17:17 “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.
John 17:18 “As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.
John 17:19 “For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they them-selves also may be sanctified in truth.
John 17:20 ¶ “I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word;
John 17:21 that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.
John 17:22 “The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one;
John 17:23 I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.
John 17:24 “Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.

These few verses explain it all from the Words of Truth to the unity of believers and God and the fact that believers are with Our Father in Heaven now and forever by His Word in Us and our behavior based on His Words. Seek this treasure of life and never let it go — eternity depends upon it.

Live by Words of God

Obviously, just to know the Words, the Laws and the Commandments do little good if a person does not walk by the Words. To know the Words without acting on it makes life a mirror image refusing to become reality. The Words of Life demand action not musing and talking. When a person walks the talk, he has the Words of Life in his being, not written on some stone or in the pages of a Book. Then the person becomes a living Word of God, far exceeding those words written on a piece of paper.

Deut. 8:3 “He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.

And God will throw challenges at believers to prove them, to make sure they know what side of the bread is buttered with His Words. Thus, living by the Words is part of the Words of Life. Having accumulated so many treasures, people must not bury them to let them decompose in the soil, but rather use them and in using them hone one’s skills to perfection. The results and profits of the good deeds go into believers’ accounts in heaven.
