Commandments on Stone

Commandments on Stone

God loved us so much that the Words of Life, Eternal Life, and the expression of His love for us, which we return to Him, were put down permanently.

Deut. 7:9 (NAS95S) “Know therefore that the LORD your God,  He is God,  the faithful God,  who keeps  His covenant and  His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments;

To make sure that the Commandments would never be forgotten, ignored, misrepresented, excluded parts or transgressed, this is what God did. Indie knew. He got the Commandments to them when people said, perhaps, each (?). Not well, maybe, if… no. It is written in stone, period. Try to change that. God gave Moses the two tablets written by His finger, that is, by His Spiritual finger. Of course the first copy was smashed by Moses and replaced by God. More later.

Ex. 31:18 (NAS95S) ¶ When He had finished speaking with him upon Mount Sinai, He gave Moses  the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone,  written by the finger of God.

Ex. 24:12 (NAS95S) ¶ Now the LORD said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and  remain there, and  I will give you the stone tablets  with the law and the commandment which I have written for their instruction.”

12. I will give thee tables of stone — The Ten Commandments, which had already been spoken, were to be given in a permanent form. Inscribed on stone, for greater durability, by the hand of God Himself, they were thus authenticated and honored above the judicial or ceremonial parts of the law.

Go up and receive the tablets, God said. Moses trusted God enough to do that.

Ex. 24:13 (NAS95S) So Moses arose  with  Joshua his  servant, and Moses went up to  the mountain of God.

13. Moses went up into the mount of God; He was called to receive the divine transcript. Joshua was taken a little higher, and it would be a great comfort for the leader to have his company during the six days he was in patient waiting for the call on the seventh or Sabbath day.

Ex. 24:14 (NAS95S) But to the elders he said, “ Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold,  Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever  has a legal matter, let him approach them.”

14. He said unto the elders, Tarry ye here for us — There is a circular valley or hollow a good way up on the brow of Jebel Musa, which was their halting place, while he alone was privileged to ascend the highest peak. The people stood below, as in the “outer court,” the elders in the “holy place,” Moses, as a type of Christ, in “the holy of holies.”

Ex. 24:15 (NAS95S) Then Moses went up to the mountain, and  the cloud covered the mountain.

Ex. 24:16 (NAS95S)  The glory of the LORD  rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; and on the seventh day He  called to Moses from the midst of the cloud.

Notice it says the seventh day, which was day God made Holy. The Sabbath is a day that God wants His people to learn of and from Him while resting from their labors and business.

To reiterate, God wrote the two tablets of the Ten Commandments in stone again because Moses, as we all know, smashed the first tablets because of what the people were doing while he was absent. Moses did not chisel them or anything. God did it. These Words are from Him, the Words and foundation of Truth.

Deut. 4:13 (NAS95S) “So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, that is,  the Ten  Commandments; and  He wrote them on two tablets of stone.

2Sam. 7:28 (NAS95S) “Now, O Lord GOD, You are God, and  Your words are truth,

Titus 1:2 (NAS95S) in  the hope of eternal life, which God,  who cannot lie,  promised   long ages ago,

Deut. 5:33 (NAS95S) “ You shall walk in all the way which the LORD your God has commanded you,  that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you will possess.

Deut. 4:14 (NAS95S) “The LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that you might perform them in the land where you are going over to possess it.

Take the Ten Commandments with you. They are not going to be left here.

Jesus, who died for all sinners, never disobeyed any of the Ten Words of Truth. Thus, Commandment keepers and believers in him have the great wall of death smashed to allow them to enter eternal life.

The Covenant commanded keeping the Ten Commandments with the powerful blessings of this covenant.

Deut. 4:15 (NAS95S) ¶ “So  watch yourselves carefully, since you did not see any  form on the day the LORD spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire,

Deut. 4:16 (NAS95S) so that you do not  act corruptly and  make a graven image for yourselves in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

Making graven images is a powerful form of deadly idolatry and a form of great hatred toward God.

Deut. 9:10 (NAS95S) “The LORD gave me the two tablets of stone  written by the finger of God; and on them were all the words which the LORD had spoken with you at the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly.

The Commandments of stone are there. They cannot be changed, reinterpreted, glossed over or added to. Like it or not, the Ten Commandments are there. They are the Word of God blessing believers and doers for their keeping. We know and wrote about how the Ten Commandments were written into the Creation.

Ex. 31:18 (NAS95S) ¶ When He had finished speaking with him upon Mount Sinai, He gave Moses  the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone,  written by the finger of God.

But the tradition generally received, both among Jewish and Christian writers is, that one table contained four precepts, the other six. The first four are about our relation to God like keeping the Sabbath Holy and the last six about our relationship with people.

Deut. 10:2 (NAS95S) ‘ I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered, and you shall put them in the ark.’

The Commandments are not going off by themselves to be hidden from those made in His Image; they will be with them wherever they are and the ark is.

Deut. 10:5 (NAS95S) “Then I turned and  came down from the mountain and  put the tablets in the ark which I had made;  and there they are, as the LORD commanded me.”

Ex. 25:17 (NAS95S) ¶ “You shall  make a  mercy seat of pure gold, two and a half  cubits  long and one and a half cubits  wide.

Ex. 25:18 (NAS95S) “You shall make two cherubim of gold, make them of hammered work  at the two ends of the mercy seat.

Ex. 25:19 (NAS95S) “Make one cherub  at one end and one cherub  at the other end; you shall make the cherubim of one piece with the mercy seat at its two ends.

Ex. 25:20 (NAS95S) “ The cherubim shall have their wings spread upward, covering the mercy seat with their wings and  facing one another; the faces of the cherubim are to be turned toward the mercy seat.

Ex. 25:21 (NAS95S) “ You shall put the mercy seat  on top of the ark, and  in the ark you shall put the testimony which I will give to you.

The tablets have a special abode within the Ark of the Covenant. They are the foundation of the Mercy Seat. There they were, the Ten Commandments, within the Ark. Indie, as we said, knew or did not, because they ended up in a warehouse in Washington. What better place to hide the tablets from the people, not on purpose, of course. Joke!

Joshua led Israel by the Ark of the Covenant; later, others from Shiloh and elsewhere. The Ark, as we go through the Bible and the travels of Israel, the tablets were there available, under circumstances, for them to see and read and keep them on the right Way of God proving their actions are true or against God’s written Word.

People say, in the New Testament, they do not have to bother with the Words written in stone in the Ark any more because it disappeared as said above.

In the New Testament it says:

Heb. 9:4 (NAS95S) having a golden altar of incense and  the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was  a golden jar holding the manna, and  Aaron’s rod which budded, and  the tables of the covenant;

The New Testament reminds those who would not want to obey God’s Word written in stone, that the Ark is still available.

We have to have Heb. 9:4 there to prove God’s eternal intent. There can be no doubt. The Words were written in stone; nothing can take away that cold stone fact with contradictory words on paper. Why would people disregard God’s love for those made in His Image by disregarding the Words of Life for words that will bring death?

Deut. 10:12 (NAS95S) ¶ “ Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require from you, but to  fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and  love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with  all your heart and with all your soul,

Deut. 10:13 (NAS95S) and to keep the LORD’S commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good?

God gave the Words of Life, the Ten Commandments, to His children because it is Life, Eternal Life, for them.

Matt. 19:17 (NAS95S) And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but  if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

2Cor. 3:3 (NAS95S) being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of  the living God, not on  tablets of stone but on  tablets of  human hearts.

Some people say you have a stony heart. Having the tablets written on the heart is the kind of stony heart a person should have. The Words of the Commandments on our hearts and minds bring us one step closer to God’s Way of Life guiding us in all our actions.

In Revelations it goes on to day:

Rev. 11:19 (NAS95S) ¶ And  the  temple of God which is in heaven was opened; and  the ark of His covenant appeared in His  temple…

It never went away from the very beginning of the Creation through the Covenant written in stone, to the Eternal Future.

…and there were flashes of  lightning and sounds and peals of thunder and an earthquake and a  great  hailstorm.

Written on stone right there for us to do coming from His Love for us and giving us the Way to love, Our Father in Heaven.

We must always follow the Commandments in all ways.

Amen.
