How do we know Noah, Abraham, Moses and others had faith? Seems like a simple question. Let us see.

Let us start with faith and healing, which gives us insight into the depth of faith.

Matt. 4:24   The news about him spreadthroughout all Syria; and they brought to him all who were ill, those suffering with various diseases and pains, demoniacs,  epileptics, paralytics; and he healed them.

31 And He came to her and raised her up, taking her by the hand, and the fever left her, and she  waited on them.

John baptized Jesus and God filled him with the Spirit [heart, mind, character of God]. His preaching and practises gave him the support, at least then, of many Jews. All this contributes to faith of speaker and hearers. He went to them and they came to him.

Acts 3:6 But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene — walk!”  7 And seizing him by the right hand, he raised him up; and immediately his feet and his ankles were strengthened.

By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen,  in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

God seized him and raised him, went to him. He spoke to him and told him what was going to happen, seized him. God provided the gopher wood and sons.

Heb. 11:8   By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed  by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going.

Heb. 11:17   By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son; 18 it was he to whom it was said, “IN ISAAC YOUR  DESCENDANTS SHALL BE CALLED.”  19  He considered that God is able to raise people even from the dead, from which he also received him back  as a type.

God seized him and told him to leave his home, went to him. God raised him up by communicating with him. Abraham had the support of his wife, servants and brother.

Exo 3:3 So Moses said, “ I must turn aside now and see this  marvelous sight, why the bush is not burned up.”  4 When the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”

Burning bush, God went to him, spoke to him and instructed him. With all his excuses, God gave him answers and help (Aaron) and others later.

James 2:17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.
James 2:18 ¶ But someone may well say, “You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.”
James 2:19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.
James 2:20 But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless?
James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?
James 2:22 You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected;
James 2:23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS,” and he was called the friend of God.
James 2:24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.
