Being Adopted by God

Our Father calls us His Sons and Daughters. How did this happen?

Our Father’s physical children.

Gen. 1:26 ¶ Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Gen. 1:27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Rejected Our Father

Gen. 3:6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

Physical Adoption

Never Rejected Our Father: Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Children of the children of Israel, prophets, etc. to David and Jesus.

Ex. 4:22 “Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the LORD, “Israel is My son, My firstborn.
Ex. 4:23 “So I said to you, ‘Let My son go that he may serve Me’; but you have refused to let him go. Behold, I will kill your son, your firstborn.”’”

Deut. 14:1 ¶ “You are the sons of the LORD your God…

Is. 63:16   For You are our Father, though Abraham does not know us
And Israel does not recognize us.
You, O LORD, are our Father,
Our Redeemer from of old is Your name.

Is. 64:8 ¶ But now, O LORD, You are our Father,
         We are the clay, and You our potter;
And all of us are the work of Your hand.

Spiritual Adoption

Luke 3:22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.”

Receive the Spirit, Mind and Character of Our Father

Rom. 8:15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”

Rom. 8:16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,

Gal. 4:5 so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
Gal. 4:6 Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”
Gal. 4:7 Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.

Eph. 1:5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,
