God's Word in Vain 1

In vain means simply to change a pagan spelling of (lowercase letter) god to a pretended (uppercase God). God punishes that action. [Third Commandment]

The (lowercase) serpent pretends to know better than (uppercase) God.

Gen. 3:11 (NAS95S) And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?”

They obeyed the vain god and became its servant.

Ex. 9:14 (NAS95S) “For this time I will send all My plagues on you and your servants and your people, so that you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth.

God punishes all who take His Name in vain Him one way or another.

Num. 14:4 (NAS95S) So they said to one another, “Let us appoint a leader and return to Egypt.”

Again and again, people change God’s Word and these too took it vain.
Neh. 9:16 (NAS95S) ¶ “But they, our fathers, acted arrogantly;
         They became stubborn and would not listen to Your commandments.
Neh. 9:17 (NAS95S) “They refused to listen,
         Anddid not remember Your wondrous deeds which You had performed among them;
         So they became stubborn andappointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt.

They made a leader to act as a vain god.

Rev. 22:18 (NAS95S) ¶ I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book;
